From Tourism Slump to Revival: Kashmir’s Tulip Garden Sees Massive 3.5 Lakh Footfall in 2026

Kashmir’s tourism sector has received a major boost in 2026 as the world-famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar recorded an impressive 3.5 lakh visitors during this year’s blooming season. The strong tourist turnout is being seen as a symbol of revival for Kashmir tourism after facing slowdowns and uncertainty in previous years. The large number of visitors highlights growing confidence among travelers and renewed interest in Jammu & Kashmir as a premium travel destination.

Asia’s Largest Tulip Garden Draws Huge Crowd

The Tulip Garden in Srinagar is widely known as Asia’s largest tulip garden. Located at the foothills of the scenic Zabarwan mountain range and overlooking the beautiful Dal Lake, the garden becomes one of India’s top spring attractions every year. During the blooming season, millions of tulips in multiple colors create a spectacular landscape that attracts tourists, photographers, families, honeymooners, and nature lovers from across the country and abroad.

3.5 Lakh Visitors in 2026 Shows Strong Tourism Comeback

Officials reported that around 3.5 lakh tourists visited the garden in 2026, making it one of the strongest seasons in recent years. The rise in footfall shows that Kashmir tourism is recovering strongly and visitors are once again choosing the valley for holidays and short vacations. The strong response also reflects improved travel sentiment and confidence among domestic tourists.

Reasons Behind the Tourism Revival

Several factors are believed to have contributed to the increase in tourist arrivals this year. Better security conditions, improved infrastructure, easier road and air connectivity, hotel expansion, active tourism promotion campaigns, and the influence of social media have all helped attract more travelers to Kashmir.

Tourists are also increasingly looking for scenic destinations within India, and Kashmir remains one of the most attractive options because of its natural beauty, pleasant climate, lakes, gardens, snow-capped mountains, and cultural heritage.

Major Economic Benefit for Local Businesses

The high number of visitors has created strong business opportunities for people connected to the tourism industry. Hotels, guest houses, houseboats, restaurants, taxi operators, local guides, handicraft sellers, flower vendors, and transport services have all benefited from the tourist rush.

Spring tourism is especially important for Srinagar and nearby areas because it creates seasonal employment and boosts local income. Many shopkeepers and tourism operators welcomed the successful Tulip Garden season and expressed hope for a strong summer tourism period as well.

More Than Just Flowers: Complete Travel Experience

The Tulip Garden attracts visitors not only because of the colorful flowers but also because of the complete Kashmir travel experience. Tourists visiting the garden often also explore:

  • Dal Lake shikara rides
  • Mughal Gardens
  • Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh
  • Local Kashmiri food
  • Shopping for handicrafts and shawls
  • Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg nearby destinations

This makes the Tulip Garden a gateway attraction for wider Kashmir tourism.

Strong Signal for Future Tourism Growth

The massive footfall in 2026 suggests Kashmir tourism is moving toward long-term recovery. If current momentum continues, visitor numbers could grow further in coming years. Strong tourism performance also helps improve the region’s national and international image as a safe, scenic, and welcoming destination.

Officials and tourism stakeholders now expect higher bookings during summer, honeymoon season, and winter travel months as well.
